The four traditional staples of Peruvian cuisine are corn, potatoes and other tubersAmaranthaceaes (quinoakañiwa and kiwicha), and legumes (beans and lupins). Staples brought by the Spanish include ricewheat and meats (beef, pork and chicken).

One unusual traditional food is guinea pigs.
